AQUILA OUD STRINGS
Our sets and single strings are designed for these different ouds:
- Arabic: cc; gg; dd; AA; FF; C
- Iraqi : ff, cc, gg, dd, AA, F
- Turkish Oud: dd, aa, ee, BB, AA, E
We offer also single strings such as:
- Arabic cc; dd; gg
- Iraqui cc; dd; ff; gg
- Tukish aa; dd
All our treble strings are made with a newly discovered bioplastic with acoustic performance that we simply call ‘Sugar’. Wound strings are made of an-allergic red copper with low noisiness under the left hand’s fingers and longer lifetime (they do not became rusty like the silvered copper ones)
Technical information:
String conversion: Sugar gauge = Nylon gauge x .91
example: .71 mm Nylon x .91= .646 mm Sugar ( in practice .65 mm)

AQUILA ARABIC AND TURKISh 3rd strings: WHY we don not employ, as usual, WOUND strings?
On the Arabic and Turkish oud sets, the 3rd strings (D and E note) are normally wound (as well as the 4th D on the Iraqi oud set). A wound string has a bright sound but, at the same time, it is fragile, expensive and gets rusty in a short time.
Aquila Corde has recently introduced a new revolutionary invention: the 3rd unwound strings. These strings are made using the Sugar bioplastic, that itshelf grant very high performances, loaded with very thin metal powder in order to increase the density and brightness of the sound. The performances are far better than a traditional wound string, as one can hear in this video (the wound string is red while the unwound is brown).
The new unwound strings last for a long time, they are very stable, and they have a perfectly smooth polished surface.
