Nylgut is a synthetic material discovered and patented by us in 1997. It has the same average specific weight as gut and a reduced moisture absorption – only 10% – as music nylon. Theoretically, a gut string and a Nylgut string should have the same gauge. However, due to the high longitudinal elongation of Nylgut, it is suggested to use a slightly larger diameter for the latter. Pull the Nylgut strings tightly and repeatedly when tuning for the first time. For the cutting effect, follow the same suggestions as for gut strings in this faq.
Nylgut cannot be used in bowed instruments due to problems of binding slippage
